There is nothing better than cooking with something you have harvested with your own hands. But, we know that not everyone is lucky to have space for a vertical garden or vegetable garden. That’s okay! You can still grow your garden and harvests the heck out of a window full of herbs in your home. Especially your kitchen!
How to Grow Indoor Herb Garden for Your Home
Many herbs you can have. But some herbs thrive indoors and some don’t. If you are a newcomer, stick with rosemary, oregano, thyme, or mint. Then, if you are feeling fancy, you can try basil or catnip. They can be a little more finicky. Remember, herbs are not long-term houseplants.
It is normal if you lose a few plants. So, how to start an indoor herb garden? When you want to start the garden towards the end of the summer, you can buy fresh herbs. Also, it is easiest if you plant them already grown. You can begin from seeds, yet it takes a lot longer that way.
- Have your indoor planter with good drainage
- Add organic soil to the planters
- Take out the herbs and place them in the indoor planters. Leave them a little above the potted soil.
- Store them in an area with good lighting.
- Watering them every few days. Don’t over the water and let the soil dry between.
- Discover an area that gets a lot of sunlight. It can be somewhere near a window.
- You can use lightbulbs for your herbs if you live in a location that is overcast during the winter.
- Do a combination of natural sunlight and a grow light.
- The herbs need at least six of light a day.
- To make sure your plants are getting light, turn the plants every now.
- Have the plants sit higher than the potting soil when planting them.
- Choose organic soil. Use it when plating and keep it light and air.
- Don’t overwater.
- Let the soil dry out between waterings. Also, don’t keep the soil too wet.
- Keep the herbs in the sink and let the faucet drip on each plant.
- Leave the herbs to drain for a few minutes.
- Wipe the bottom with a dry towel and set the herbs back.
